2. Handwritten letters have a distinctly personal touch, but WRITE NEATLY. Letters that are illegible are discarded. Letters written on a typewriter or word processor are accepted and eligible for the contest.
3. The stated purpose of the contest is to send letters of support to our troops stationed overseas. Winning letters are those written from the heart. Remember as you write your letter that it needs to be a letter of encouragement, which means the letter should be either upbeat or have elements of hope within it.
4. This letter of support that you write will be sent to an American service member stationed overseas. Keep in mind that this person could be male or female and could be a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. Also remember that letters are sent to many locations around the world such as Bosnia, Kosovo, South Korea as well as Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan.
5. All appropriate letters are sent to our
service members. Letters that are not considered appropriate by our judges are
discarded and contain one or more of the following elements:
6. Remember, you must staple (best) or
tape your Official Entry Form to your letter for it to qualify (no paper clips
please). Letters submitted without an entry form attached will be sent on to a
service member, but will not be entered into the contest.
A FINAL NOTE: If you would like for the service member to write you back, you must
include your own return address or the address of your school or group on the letter
itself. Contest Entry Forms are removed before the letters are shipped overseas.
Including your own address on the letter does not guarantee the service member will
write back, but if they dont have your address, they dont have a choice!
GOOD LUCK IN WRITING A
WINNING LETTER!
