LETTERS FROM THE FRONT takes place in 1945 during the closing days of the war in Europe. We were determined to avoid the psuedo or glamorized WWII look so common in movies and plays. We searched archives for photos taken during the 40's that showed how people really dressed, how they really wore their hair and makeup, and what their homes really looked like. That's why it's such a thrill when audience members who lived during those times make a point to tell us: "You got it exactly right."
Some of our costumes were actually made in the 40's while others are hand made from genuine war era clothing patterns. We glean antique shops for props and set dresings, some of which date back to the 20's and 30's since most homes have furnishings a decade or more old, not to mention heirlooms. This attention to detail is part of a concerted effort to create an emersive experience for our audiences.
